Who Am I?
Hi, I’m Makai, a marketing agency owner from the UK who writes about side hustles, social media and everything marketing.
I’ve been working in marketing for over 20 years now and love how the industry changes, especially now we have AI to help us.
A Little Bit About Me
I started out working as a software tester but soon found my first side hustle in the music industry running club nights. This taught me first hand how to directly market people. The catalyst for where I am today.
From promoting my own club night on Myspace, I quickly learned how to use automation to build large audiences on Myspace. Very quickly I was working for big music artists, helping them build their brand through Myspace, all alongside my day job.
Soon on the heels of Myspace came Facebook. Along with using automation to grow brands, I learnt more about content creation and as this took off, I had to make a decision; Stay in the 9 – 5 job I had trained to do, with a ceiling, or strike out and take a risk. I stayed in my 9 – 5.
Then came Twitter and I applied everything I’d learnt from Myspace and Facebook. At the same time, I launched a music studio, offering audio mastering services. With Twitter and blogging, I was able to build a successful studio, which is still providing valuable services to musicians today. This was my first foray into blogging.
As I learnt how to use blogging to drive traffic to my studio, I also came across affiliate marketing. From recommending other companies, to giving clients a commission for referring people, affiliate marketing has been a revelation!
So as the music studio took off, I had another decision to make with my 9 – 5 job. This time, I had the confidence to walk away from the job that had supported me and have never looked back.
Since then, my main work has been with Instagram and LinkedIn, helping brands drive leads and sales. All this is done through my digital marketing agency, Product London Design. I’m also incorporating blog content into client work because it’s now more important than ever to drive customers to their websites.
All of the above has led me to setup this website. Side hustles have been such an important part of my life, so I really wanted to give something back. A website that gives ideas to those starting out but also really helps those who are on the path to leaving their 9 – 5 and reaching their goals.
